Toni Payne ArtPrize Journey

The Story behind Journey of No Regrets

Once upon a time, a big bird was wading through brilliantly colored, jewel-tones of rippling water.
With nearby glowing lilies on a shiny, aluminum-colored background, it must’ve been a stunning scene;
unlike the water-stained artwork that I was facing, which had obviously lost the battle of time.

Journey of No Regrets is all about color, harmony and connections.
With the restoration of this crackled & flaking Art Deco gouache,
I’d like to share the ability to progress and evolve – to venture into deeper waters without fear.

My Native American ancestors recognized the Snowy Egret’s graceful stature
and believed it to symbolize a strong connection to earthly elements;
going with the flow of Nature as opposed to going against – if one way doesn’t work, another will.

Offered in four panels hung as one,
this journey shows that a new appreciation can be achieved as an old, muted painting
is transformed with un-egrettable (sorry, couldn’t help it), color-block balance.
